There are new rules from the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC) regarding Continuing Education requirements for licensees. In addition to the total renewal Continuing Education hours increasing from 30 to 36 hours effective January 1, 2017, licensees are now required to complete certain courses during each of their renewal cycle anniversary years.
For instance, if you renew your license on August 1, 2017, and you have not taken the former 8-hour Mandatory Course before it was discontinued on December 31, 2016, you will be required to take a new 4-hour annual Mandatory Core course before renewing your license in 2017. If you did take the former 8-hour Mandatory Course during your current cycle before it was discontinued on December 31, 2016, you will not be required to take a new 4-hour annual Mandatory Core course before renewing your license in 2017. Then beginning with your new renewal cycle, you will be required to take a new 4-hour annual Mandatory Core course between August 1, 2017 and July 31, 2018, then another 4-hour annual Mandatory Core course between August 1, 2018 and July 31, 2019, and then another 4-hour annual Mandatory Core course between August 1, 2019 and July 31, 2020 when you renew your license again. In effect, your annual mandatory course requirement follows your 12-month annual anniversary years, and not the calendar year.
In addition to having a minimum of 36-hours of CE credits, you will be required to take a new 4-hour Core Elective course and a new 4-hour NMREC Ethics approved course before you can renew your license in 2017. Then going forward, you will be required to take the Core Elective and NMREC Ethics approved courses anytime during your new 3-year renewal cycle.
The NMREC has put together the following Appendix to their Rule Changes detailing specific requirements by renewal cycle for those licensees renewing their license in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
